VB6 or VB.NET

Posted 03 December 2008 - 04:44 PM

I want to learn VB just for some fun because the language looks really easy. So which one should I learn? VB6 or VB.NET?

I just want to learn it for fun, I don't plan on sticking with it.

VB.NET. I mean VB6 is old and why not learn something fun and also something a bit more modern and relevant to what is being done in the industry now? I mean if something was to happen and you wanted to program for food or something, you will want to put a modern technology on your resume instead of an old one that is becoming less prevalent in the industry.

Besides VB.NET deals much more with object oriented programming which is the foundation of a lot of other languages. So if you had real fun and wanted to try another language, it would be easier for you to lateral into another language of your choice.

:)

Thanks for your very informal post mate.

I already know HTML, XHTML, CSS, Javascript, a bit of XML, PHP really well and some SQL. So this is my first software programming language.

In the end I want to learn C/C++, JAVA, Python and I think that's it. So thanks mate, what program do you recommend for VB.NET development?

Visual Studio is your IDE of choice for VB.NET. You can get it free from the microsoft site at the following URL...

Microsoft Visual Basic (and others) express editions - Free

Hey bud!!! :D

Go with VB.NET. Why learn something older, and VB6 costs money. VB.NET doesn't. :) You can easily learn VB.NET just for fun. :)

You can create a lot of really cool things with VB.NET. :) If you enjoy VB.NET you might enjoy some of the other .NET languages. :) They're all a lot similar to one another.

Cya round bud. :)

Sharp Develop is nice, not the most useful though. I like Visual studio better. :)

VB.NET is probably better, but I don't use it - so I can't say. :)
