Geek Test

Posted 05 December 2008 - 05:33 AM

Thought about taking your laptop with you to the can?

I was just thinking about it tonight, I could have some BB King playin, read a little bit of my c++ for absolute beginners, and feel like I accomplished something on multiple fronts when I was done. :)

You know I might have to install a tablet pc on the wall beside the johnny. With a wireless set up I could stream some tunes off my home network or even zap off a couple of IM notes to one of my buds while taking care of business.

What do you think?

What's the geekiest tech thing you have considered doing or have done to your home? (vehicle, treehouse, home appliances)

Did that just once to check if my Wi-Fi signal could reach my bathroom.
After that test, I use my cell phone to access the internet using Wi-Fi almost everyday.

I code and read books on C# for the whole night.

....when I have very important quiz for Electric Circuit the next morning and 2 assignment to be submitted by 5pm the next day.

The result? I got 10/50 for the quiz. Submitted the *cough*90% copied*cough* assignment by 4.56pm. I was doing the assignment the whole day, even in classes.

Turned down (going to parties, going drinking, intercourse) because I was in the middle of a project.

:( I suck.

When my car project is finished, I'm going to adapt a data cable for my iPod to some sort of an interface.

A friend & myself have thrown around setting up a HID/USB with PHP/MySql/MD5 for unlocking & ignition to my car as well.

I insisted my best friends reschedule one of their bridal showers so I could be home to play Guild Wars Nightfall the day it released. I am ashamed.

Ok, so I have only dreamed of things I would like to do. The biggest was that I had about 5 servers in a server room in the basement of my house (currently no basement....remember it's a dream), and a HUGE computer room that had about 10 computers in them, with about 5 actually working, and the rest were client computers that I was fixing. Oh, it was 3 M$ boxes, 1 Mac, and 1 Linux box. All were being used for different things like the Mac was a Graphic Design box, the Linux was the server box, 1 gaming box (M$), one basic app programming box, and a family box! Not to mention that I have dreamt up different types of monitoring software for the servers, and applications!

The laptop in the bathroom thing is old hat. I do that all the time. I am usually in the middle of coding or something similar that causes me to do that. Either that work I am creating D&D characters.

As for geekiest thing I have thought about. I have worked on designs for an android (basic thing about how it would move and how the brain would work, no specific schematics), and for my multi-processor (like at least 20 cooled by being places on a cold plate inside of a chilled tube) house computer with multiple touch screens set into the house everywhere (think star trek). I have even thought about writing my own OS, but gave up on that idea (at least for regular computers) as it would be WAY to much work then it is worth when I can just use Linux. I have also built (still need to play with the software to get it finished) a multi-touch table (think M$ Surface).

I was going to setup a small touchscreen PC on a couple of hinges under the cupboard in my kitchen so I could fold it out and look up recipes or stream tv while I was in there but the wife responded "for goodness sake can't we have one room in the house with no PCs in it?"
She also vetoed my setting up three servers in my loft so I could run various test projects from home as apparently the rack servers I have are too noisy and could be heard from the bedrooms.

I do read stuff in bed on a tablet PC though.

When I eventually get round to getting a driving license and a car I imagine it will be something akin to K.I.T.T.
