PsychoCoder's Winter 08 Thread

Posted 12 December 2008 - 08:28 PM

You can insert your own word for the end of that title. Well I know it's Winter here, and we get snow every year (like I could ever forget that lol), but after last year this is getting insane. Last year we were within .25 inches of breaking the all time record for snowfall in a single Winter, this year it's starting to look like last year, except it didn't start last year until January.

It started snowing around noon today, and hasn't stopped since (it's not 7:07PM PST). I'll get some good pics in the morning, but all you get tonight are the two I could get in the dark (we've got a little over 8 inches of snow already and the National Weather Service is now saying we can get another 10 inches by morning, for you math majors that's almost 19 inches of snow in a 24 hour period  )

We don't often get a decent amount of snow in much of the U.K. anymore, when I was a kid we seemed to get much more and more often too.
One year I was visitng family down in Cornwall when we were snowed in...to Cornwall not just the house. Even when we dug out the door and path of the house, the roads couldn't be seen. We had to spend an extra week off school (damn shame :D ) before we eventually made it out.

National Weather Service gave us a wonderful update, we are now under a heavy winter storm warning until 10PM PST tomorrow night with snow falls expected of 10-16 inches in the valleys and 18-24 inches in the mountain areas (we happen to be in the middle of those two areas), then starting at 10:01PM PST tomorrow night we're going to be under another heavy winter storm warning where we can receive another 10-16 inches of show.

I hate mother nature with a passion!

You could make an army of snowmen and take over the colder parts of the world.

It "snowed" in Dallas the other day. Of course...none of it stuck, but snow nonetheless. :) If we had actual snow here like I saw in Massachusetts there would be chaos because people here seem to have trouble driving in the rain.

There is a debate going on in our City, because there is hardly any salt for the roads. Some people believe that the city is just trying to save money, while others say that salt production companies tripled their charging price for road salt. This mixed with our November snow fall was large, I'm not sure if it was record breaking. So on the other side of the US, we are having similar issues.

On a side note, I love the snow. I'm looking forward to the 1st blizzard of '09!

No kidding. I love it here, where I used to be from it would snow for a week regularly then dip down to -40C for a while just so that snow removal was considerably harder and less fun than it already is.

That's a pretty good amount Psycho, you'll be having a white Christmas for sure.

I should dig out my pics of last year... 3 feet of snow on our open balcony.

Sounds like the same thing back where I'm from Fooboo. When I was a kid in Michigan we had been snowed in so bad my dad took the pins out of the hinges, pulled the door off and had to tunnel out. We were buried for days. Nowadays we're lucky if we even get enough snow to run the snowmobiles around a bit in the winter time.

I have to say tho I am dreading this winter. I've been living in CA for the last 3 years and we're moving back to MI in the next month or two. It was in the low 70's here the other night while it was almost down to zero back home, YIKES! After three years to acclimate to warmer weather I'm actually worried.

So...you want African-American snow? And/or Asian snow?

Good luck finding snow that immigrated from Africa. ;)
