Launched my work's new site today!

Posted 17 December 2008 - 03:45 PM

Okay, so I've been working on the re-design and development my work's site for about 6 months now. I finally got it all done (for the most part), and I launched it live today. I had a colleague of mine send me some screen grabs from his computer of the navigational links across the top being kind of jacked up. It's fine on my end in multiple browser/screen resolutions. It's the state of Alaska's website for the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council (for whom I work for..), so it's kind of a big deal..

Anyway, could you take a look at it when you get a chance and post back any functional/appearance problems that you notice. I'm mainly interested in how the navigation comes out on your end. Save the design critique please, I know it's not the prettiest site, but it's what they wanted. Link below..

Thanks guys!

The footer is the first thing I noticed. Kinda ends up in the middle of the page when you scroll down.

I agree, I would like to see the footer flush with the bottom of the page instead of about 40px above it, but other than that it looks pretty good.

Aside from the problems with the footer, most everything looks good in firefox & chrome to me.

On the search page however google tries to display the image at
http://www.evostc.st...VOS_logo_sm.gif
which apparently doesn't exist, and your redirect script is broken
"File not found: /redirect.cfm "

first I would center the page, I hate sites (that aren't 100% the width of my browser) not being centered. Next I would design it for 1024x768 (almost looks 800x600 but that could be the size of my monitors) that way the columns could be a little wider, such as the far left one that just drives me insane because it takes so many lines to display so few words. Also, in the same column, make the text the same size (unless the white text is some sort of header).

Finally, please fix the footer lol, drives me batty

Thanks guys! Yes, I know, these are all thing I need to do (in time).. It's difficult because I'm working with stakeholders that aren't in the design industry..

An error I am having in Google Chrome is the "Go" button that should appear after the search box is just showing up in the middle of the "Resources and Information" graphic.

I haven't got any problems, works for me in Firefox and IE 7.
But maybe format and style your text in the footer a bit to much in my eyes and maybe center the website but not needed, just would like it more.

In Opera, the whole top menu seems messed up.
You can only see the bottom half of "Exxon Valdez Oilspill Trustee Council", the text below the image at the top goes outisde the borders, the fish logo at the top left pushes the "home" button down, the Rss button gets pushed down along with the search area.

Otherwise, nice site

Pretty straight fo(oter)rward site. Did you design it or did you have someone else? You should link them this thread. :] Lol.

Inline styles? really? Why do you have an inline style for your footer?

You should always try to avoid inline styles. You want to separate between CSS and HTML, that's the the whole point.
