Now where is this developer who does not use win32? Please tell me!

I'm reading this thread, and scratching my head - I search up and have a quick look at the referenced "where's the beep" thread, and I'm thinking to myself... "Beep? vital function for debugging used by every coder he knows?"

I must be missing something...

If win32 was such an "essential building block" to achieving any degree of knowledge in C++ - don't you think Straustrup would have at least *mentioned* it in his book about C++? I don't think he even mentions Microsoft - and only uses the word "Windows" to mean the MS written OS maybe once. He does seem to know as much as almost anyone about C++ though.

And surely there are (as some other poster alluded to) many excellent C++ programmers out there who never even use MS Windows, let alone win32.

Perhaps if you could explain your logic for me, slowly... spell it out - I don't always get things right off the bat..

I'd like to know why my "where's the Beep" was moved from c++ forum
to Computor Support & Operating Systems.

Simply put, because you were asking why Vista disabled it. This no longer has anything to do with C/C++ code, & the discussion has now become based on the Operating System. Thus... Computer Support & Operating Systems becomes the better category for the topic. Sorry that this needs spelled out.

Oh, & by the way, there is a link in C/C++ so that those whom find it can follow it.

Anyone know what happening with Beep, is this just another vista kcoc?
I'm really tempted to go back to xp, so fed up with updating most of my code.

Now, when you can tell me what that has to do with C/C++, I'll eat humble pie.
