I myself prefer PHP, HTML, CSS, and Java for programming. I find it kind of sad that most of the people that posted in this thread no longer post here or part take in the community. :(

Hey this is a pretty nice post.... And the programming language which suites a person, is always best.... If you have interest in someone specific language, then you can easily learn and work with that language.... I've just started learning PHP a few days ago... Though it will take time, but I'm enjoying....

You may want to watch for the last post date on topics before you reply to them. In this case you have nothing to contribute to the topic at hand that is relevant.

Now then, as far as web languages are concerned PHP has a large following but I've always found it to be unorganized and even with OOP methods it wasn't really designed to work as such in the first place. To that I heavily prefer ruby as a much more solid and stable environment to work in.

Ruby seems to me to be a combo of C++ and Java more than anything, so it's not an incredibly difficult language to learn in a week with prior experience. It seems to be getting a lot of attention on its rails dev project over in California as well.

Couldn't agree more. Each language suites each persons style and interests.

It surprises me that web developers still argue over this topic each and every day! I couldn't agree with you more that it's more about what's best for the client in that given situation and of course (obviously) the language choice may be determined based upon a number of things:

- The development team's experience
- The clients requirements (e.g. if they need a blogging site, many times leveraging Joomla or Wordpress via PHP is a good idea)
- The clients existing solution(s) (e.g. if all of their solutions are coded in C#/.NET and they may need to integrate in the future)

There are many other factors to be considered but these are some of the major ones that impact the decisions each and every day.

Cheers,
Brent

Couldn't have said it better myself. I work in an agency where the primary web language is ASP Classic, but one of the agency's premiere sites is ColdFusion. They constantly ask me if ColdFusion is better than ASP or PHP and I tell them that they are all equally capable or have to explain that I can't do "this or that" on the ASP site because I don't know enough ASP and that it can be done in ColdFusion because I know how to do it. So again, thank you for laying it out there in the open.

Sounds like a poor agency if they don't know that. No offence at all.
