[illustrain]

After a mishap with an asshole who stole alot of my design work, I decided to create my own design company. I'm actually trying to make this good unlike most of the bullcrap ones out there now. It'll pretty much be local stuff - but I want to have a snazzy site.

Æffect Studio http://aestudio.illustrain.com -> partial layout so its not completely done.

How it will look after its done - maybe a bit fancier or something, not sure. I just want feedback on the general layout.

(the logo is hand drawn if it looks a bit messed up - and don't say it looks like the k10k logo please

The flash piece is from levitated.net - full credit will be given to them and it will be modified for color and the words will be changed (some images put in also).

I dont really want crits on the HTML part, just the layout and design. Thanks!

Overall i like it. Colours pleasant. Easy to to use. etc etc.

However:
1. The line spacing of that main text is too big. (from .jpeg)
2. I don't know if it's me or my monitor or your design, but I get the illusion like the page is... bulging. It doesn't really bother me, just wanted to feel more sane.
3. The login labels for User and Password may not be clear for some "internet challenged" folks.

3. Well, if they don't get it I'll make sure that it says "Username/Password" in the my account area - but it dosen't look as good on the main page.

very nice man , the layout looks great , good use of colors , the logo is nice, I like it a lot, and I like the name.

One of the better peices of design ive seen posted on this forum in quite some time.

Few things:

If that big block of random words is the menu try making it smaller, or without much white space.

The User login is in an area I personally wouldn't use for the login. Usually items that are right below the logo, or near the top of the page are recognized most. Thus, a pre-existing customer could go to any page to login without the trouble (since they are already a customer) whereas a possible customer should have the benefit of the main page and have all audience pointed to them. (or a majority)

It's suggested that if you have a flash menu (especially one that is kind of confusing to an end user) you have a text/image based menu aswell near by so they can use that if they wish. It looks like you have some links at the top right.

Other then that, everything else seems pretty good. Once all areas of the site are done im sure I'll have some other pointers.

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I'm going to go under the domain aeffectstudio.com - but I need to shorten it somehow - aestudio.com is taken. It'd be hard to say that to someone verbally without saying "A-E ffect studio dot com". Any ideas? I'll probably register two domains.

Too small? I'm in 1600x1200 and can read it perfectly. I don't think its too small - and too big would be ugly in my opinion.

its too small for the standard user. I always do these types of checks with the elderly,like parents. When im not sure if somthing looks 'normal' for standard users , i call up my parents to check.. ive had complaints too often the text is to small. You can go inbetween the size 1/2 with css

Anyway, I love the way it is now, although the flash is not loading for me all the way and there seems to be an image out of place on the lower left.

I don't know, I might get rid of the flash, but I don't really know what to put there. I need some content thats not a bunch of filler BS. Also, anyone have an idea how to shorten the name?

is there a purpose to the flash thingy besides filling space? cuz if not, get rid of it. it's huge and taking up your most valuable real estate on the page... for no reason. and the whiteh blockiness of it wrecks an otherwise great design.

i recommend shrinking that space by half (same width half height). then either leave the flash there (i'm assuming you're going to replace those random words with relevant ones...? please?) or put something else there... some sort of simple, mostly white image would rock.
