FWIW- I've been away from here for some time, but am back and Find it sad that newbs are given the cold shoulder on ANY site. I know that this is a legit, quality site with tons of helpful folks. I'm a coding neophyte myself, but a vet of the internet and find it simply reprehensible that new members posts are ignored... "Welcome" is totally generic, costs a poster nothing, and is only 7 keystrokes.
And... its not difficult. Its shameful that someone who originally posted in August did not have a greeting until March.

Agreed. I've been trying to remember to check here when I have time, lately, and answer any topics that haven't gotten a reply yet. Some time's I do fall in to being a bit generic if it's late, I'm in a hurry, or there's a few too many topics unanswered, but I late least try and get a a full sentence or two in and have a somewhat decent, nice, reply just to make sure they get something.

Indeed, it is very important that they feel welcome coming to the site, I know I need to pick it up on my part. Greeting leaves the first impression the user has with the forum.

I, too, am trying to write in this section from time to time, however I never write a templated "welcome" message. Rather I only "welcome" when I have something even remotely genuine to say to that person. Usually that means I answer people who plan on learning C or C++. ;)

I don't want them to feel that my "welcome" is forced, automatic, and not really aimed at them, so I always try to think of something, even if its just a few words. Hopefully I'm not too bad at it. ;)

Thank you very much for giving me the Greeters badge :)

I hope I will do justice to it by greeting new members so that they feel welcome in the forum. :)

Thanks again.

regards,
Raghav

Hi, rather ominous that dishy Sabulba got no encouragement for her intrepid wish to like her stay here. Was she ever heard from again? If you're still out there Sabulba, I'm new and i hope to enjoy my stay here also. :)

"Dishy"? People.. use that in normal conversations?

Also you may want to check the dates.. October 2012 is when that user last posted. You are probably not getting a reply. Also, you may want to check the user's profile.

yes i do, and yes i did. What did i say to warrant a rebuke? Is there no sense of humor around here? That's what i meant by ominous. Your reply decides if i stay here or not

Interesting. My initial question was just on the use of an anachronistic word being used. More or less a 'Hmm, that's certainly strange.".

You prompted a further review, and now the phrasing seems tantamount to a "what's up toots" and a cat call. An odd choice to respond to a two year old post, but hey - that's your choice.

If you have further questions feel free to shoot me a PM and let's not clog up this thread.

ok, i had no context to work with on your "dishy" comment except sarcasm. Not anachronistic to me because i like british comedies. If it's not in vogue since 1974, what do i know? Dishy is a pretty nice and inoffensive, not a leering adjective as is so common according to today's standards. And i'm not dreaming of striking up a dialogue with this. just a little humor , just for the sake of it. Is that too much to ask?
