Looks sweet, but have they fixed the server overhead for it yet? Last time I tried it was 4.5 & sucked my machines tits dry!

It's safe to say a lot has changed since 4.5. The new CFMX 6.1 is about 2.5 time faster than CF 5 which was quite a bit faster than 4.5. As far as server recourses, we are running it on a PIII servers and don't have any problems.

Another cool feature is the drastically better CFMAIL tag (used to send email). Before 6.1, it couldn't keep up with our mailing lists (which were several 100 thousand each). Now it sends multi-part messages automatically and they've clocked it at 1,000,000 messages an hour.

So does anyone else here use ColdFusion anyway?

Yeah, I still use ColdFusion. I prefer it against Perl, PHP, JSP, and ASP.

yeah, me too. my job is 90% coldfusion so I use it all the time. We just upgraded our servers to 6.1 here and haven't had any problems. We use ASP at my job as well, although another guy handles that. Doing basics like sending email and database queries seems pretty chunky compared to CF, but to each his own.

It does abstract a lot of functionality with its tags. I can't stand those who don't take ColdFusion seriously. I'm also a C++/PHP programmer and a lot of people think it's a kid's toy. These people are really ignorant and are just following the thoughts of other ignorant people to fit in and be accepted. I see this all the time at slashdot.

By the way, do you have a CF certification? I got my Advanced CF cert this month. Woohoo!

Congrats on passing your test! I have an advanced cert in CF.

I know what you mean, I think part of the problem is the CF is easy to get started with. So you have this group of people writing code that works, but is really poorly written, making it hard to update and run slowly. Then "real" developers think that coldfusion is junk.

Oh well, what can you do.

I'm glad you like CF Chris. I learned CF first, then tried to learn some ASP. It seems so much more complex then it has to be. I can imagine that if you knew PHP, it would take no time at all to pick up CF.

If you're going for the exam I recommend you get a copy of Ben Forta's Examination guide and purchase CMFX Exam Buster. The exam Buster is a program that has over 750 questions to practice from. You can select different topics. This is where most of my practice came from. Here are the URLs:

Thanks for the certification info above (I have iNet+ and CIW certs and am considering a CF cert!). As my job is 80% administrative and 20% coding, I don't get to do as much CF as I'd like, but it's pretty much all I use (we have one app that's written in ASP I tweek every now and then, but I agree it's more cumbersome than CF).
