Accessing client files through the use of JavaScript

Post icon  Posted 14 January 2009 - 05:16 PM

I'm wondering as to how one could develop a web page that's capable of reading files from within a client system; a client views a web page and is susceptible to files being read - or for reading system info; processor type, speed, operating system details, etc, etc.

A second function I've been trying to achieve is a web page consisting of both Javascript and PHP; I've been trying to get PHP to read variables from within Javascript, utilizing both the $_GET and $_POST, but haven't succeeded - can anyone help me out please?

All help is greatly appreciated. :)

Javascript in the browser can't read files on the client system, by design. Frankly, this sounds like a "how do I write malicious software" post. It's doubtful you'll get any help for that.
