PHP MySQL connector

Post icon  Posted 14 January 2009 - 09:09 PM

Hello,

I've never done this before so I am totally lost but here it goes:

I set up Apache, PHP and MySQl on my computer so I can start doing some stuff from home. Everything looks fine from the tutorials I found and the test I was told to do afterwards. I then got to the final part of trying to installing the MySQl connector and am lost. According to everything I found I am supposed to go to
http://dev.mysql.com.../connector/php/ but this doesn't take me there but to a search so I looked around and found what I think I'm supposed to download and really have no idea what to do with it because the tutorials I found don't match my directions.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows how to install the MySQL connector for PHP. I suppose this isn't a programming question but I was hoping someone using PHP had a clue on how to do this.I suppose a beginning pointer on this step would be great if anyone can help.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

Change what would be required in the following :

<?php
$db_host="localhost";
$db_user="your_user";
$db_password="password";
$db="content";

$cid = mysql_connect($db_host,$db_user,$db_password);
if(!$cid) {
  echo "Failed to connect";
}
else {
  echo "At this point we are connected";
}
?>

that is a program, or a package of all the tools you need.

I actually finally decided to try the Wamp Server and that's a really cool program. Thanks to everyone for recommending it on here.

Thank You everyone. I set up the XAMPP. After I did that though I'm wondering if there was an upgrade in one of the downloads to my problem where you didn't need the connector anymore. Anyway, Thank You.
