Some people's children

Posted 27 January 2009 - 12:52 PM

This an excerpt from a conversation my wife was just having in MSN with one of her co-workers. Some of the information (regarding her work and her name) have been removed. I laughed out loud when I read it on her screen

Quote

barbara22 says:
hi XXXX have you got a min??

My Wife: Yes, sure!

barbara22 says:
thanks i went on XXXX last nite for the first time and then i seem to have a lot of problems with the comp going really slow and not getting onto my other services have you ever experenced that?

My Wife: I sure haven't and what browser are you using?

barbara22 says:
msn i think

My Wife: Is it Internet Explorer or Firefox?

barbara22 says:
internet explorer

Ah ok, do you use firefox at all?

barbara22 says:
no i have just installed Norton

barbara22 says:
its ok but not very fast

Hope you're as amused (and scared) as I was

Do you know that open-heart surgery has to do with your heart?

Most people use internet more often than they eat food and somehow they don't forget the names knife and fork (or spoon) but learning the name of the tool used for 'browsing' the internet seems nearly impossible.
Heart-surgery maybe wasn't the best comparison, not many people perform heart surgery, ever.. Not even surgeons.

Doesn't matter, it's just some temporary thing that people use to amuse themselves, it will be gone in a year or two, you'll see.

The way countries are trying to restrict the internet / filter information for the public eye is destroying its cause. When the internet was uncool or considered geeky, it was the place to be. Now there is barely any freedom of speech, no anonymity etc. Who's to blame? Social networking of course.

MySpace, Facebook etc bought an influx of noobs to the internet. 2nd place comes blogs. People can post whatever they want out of honesty, cos it's the freakin internet. Now countries are trying to change that and I think that's wrong.

If only there was such thing as a GNUNet. Sites would need to be approved access to certain domains etc. There wouldn't be the random flood of DOMAINS FOR SALE, people could report addresses for termination etc etc. The GNU project are supporters of open source and freedom of information, anything deemed evil obviously wouldn't be approved but if someone wanted to bag their own country thats a right they should have.

Just my 2c.
