I've got an interview tomorrow for Computer Science with Maths at Leeds university (England). I've prepared some material to show them such as source code for programs I have written, and examples of my programs running in action.

I'm a little bit nervous and was wondering if anyone had any first hand advice about whats good and whats bad in an interview such as this one.

If you are asked what your weaknesses are, always turn it into a positive, e.g. Penis width is generally more important.

I've never been in an interview, I don't want to be in one for quite a while seeing as I'm not really fit for a job that involves people.

Lol, usually in an interview the interviewer is more impressed if you are able to give a real weakness, but also coupled with how you have either improved with it or how you cope with that weakness and how you will turn it into a strength. These people aren't dumb, if you turn a weakness into a positive like "I work too hard" or something cliche like that they're just going to look right past you.

If its a university admission interview, try to cast "I know X,Y, and Z" into "I am a quick and self directed learner, and tend to direct my knowledge in practical directions; as evidenced by X, Y, and Z".

Never heard it like that before, but that's good advice.

When I interviewed at RadioShack for a sales associate position, I wore a suit. The district manager said I was the first person he had ever interviewed to wear a suit and tie to the interview. Made an impression though. Got the job and was promoted almost immediately in to their manager program.

Thanks for your advice I'll try and keep that in mind . Its not a job, I'm applying to do a degree.

I showed up at leeds university with about 15 other applicants, and I was one of three who was wearing a suit. We then had a tour of the computer labs.

We also had a go with some of the PhD students work, which consisted of a giant powerwall (53 million pixels), and a co-operative 3D tetris game where each person took the form of some floating avatar (I was a cat, which I thought was very fitting, and the other people were a monkey and a dog), and we could each only control one piece at a time but you could have serveral people controlling the same piece which was quite fun. We didn't get a single layer .

The interview went very well and she was really impressed with what I had done so far with my programming and she gave me an offer on the spot. I think possibly the suit had something to do with it.
