Bah.. I found Doom to be banal and poorly constructed. The graphics blew, the game play was clichéd (mars? demons? wow.. that's been done a hundred times since Commander Keen), and the hit detection sucked. Not to mention - puuh-leez a bit of variety with the weapons. A shotgun and rocket launcher? That's totally sixteen years ago.
Let's not get into the fact the AI was mediocre, the level builder crashed more than Windows ME, and the plot was on rails.
What? Was that brown pixelated poop smear suppose to *be* something? It's called "3-d graphics" people... look into it.
Ug. That Doom is to video games as Nickleback is to rock and roll.
Side note: according to wikipedia there were multiple versions of this game (why I will never know). I was refering to Doom 1.

Well in their defense the original DOOM was like 15 years ago (or so, not sure of the exact date), back when Wolfenstein was popular, and there was no 3D graphics back in those days. I have all the DOOM games, and think DOOM III rocks

doom was good at the time. doom 3 was good at that time too. it was some of the best graphics seen in the pre-crysis,pre-gears era. it wasnt that long ago..

From time to time I still play Doom or Doom II.
For a while when a new computing device came out, one of the 1st things ported to it is Doom.
"New iPod Nano!"
"can it play doom?"

I was joking folks. I am well aware of Doom's landmark.
I still have the CD which had doom, hexen, doom 2, and quake on it.
lullz.

We do not joke about certain things in this community.
DOOM and Chuck Norris are two of them.

Wait, if a sentence has "Chuck Norris" somewhere in it, chances are it is a joke.
Doom on DosBox works just fine. Damn near any modern system can handle a port of it. It's still fun.
