Just for everyones knowledge, Android can be developed in NetBeans as well. All you need is the SDK and the nbAndroid plugins. Here are some links to help you install

nbAndroid XML
NetBeans Wiki: Intro to Android

I haven't started using it yet (will today though) but I think you may need ANT installed for deployment. I will check on that. Also, it is helpful to note that there are several Android google groups from beginners to advanced users.

I still haven't seen a paid app yet, however I don't think the paid apps will flourish in that environment. I pay enough for the data rate plan and txt messaging and family minutes to be forking over more money for an app.

I would however pay a 1 time fee for a real time GPS though.

Thought I'd add a couple of Android Resources that I use that I didn't see listed.

Android Package Index

Android Source Code (viewable in browser)

If you're developing for Motorola devices then the MotoDev Studio has some nice features like premade AVD's

Well I have been programming Android for about 3 months. I have one ad-supported app on the market. I use the Android Dev site the most.

As far as books I use these two the most.

Teach Yourself Android Application Development in 24 Hours

Beginning Android 2

Also I use Admob with AdWhirl handling the ad work. Took me a while to get it to work, but I had skipped a few steps. Doh! A lesson well learned though. I have picked up a few tricks along the way and hope I can help others along this road.

If you are a web developer and want to make native WebApps you must have phoneGap ;)

I am using phonegap for a client of mine. I have to say that web designing is hell for a code programmer like me. I'd love to see a really good drag and drop web IDE but as far i have to do it all by hand!. It's hell!
