Favorite || Most Inspiring Teacher

Seems this forum only has rants about teachers whom they think are incompetent or unqualified to teach in their designated profession.

I would like to take this time to talk about Teachers || Professors that inspired you.

I will start -
Dr. Jenkins: University of Toledo - Criminal Justice: one of the funniest and knowledgeable professors I have ever encountered. He made coming to class exciting and entertaining. Although an admitted Liberal and supporter of the ACLU he never pushed his agenda on us and encouraged us to stand up for what we believe in. To him I take my hat off and thank you for the education you have given me.

Bonnie Kreft: Bedford Sr. High - English: She never gave up on me and always inspired me to be the best person I could be. After graduating Boot Camp I came back to the High School to say thank you and to speak to her class about life after H.S. & the Military.

How about the rest of you. All of your Professors and Teachers aren't evil let's here your stories and praises.

Mr. Madden: 9th & 11th grade English teacher. He was funny. & the first teacher to ever call me "friend"...it was kinda shocking at the time. He's now (last I heard) principal of my old high school.

Ms. Munro: 9th-11th grade Art teacher. She's the one who taught me how to draw. A very knowledgable lady when it comes to art. She got married a few years or so after I was out of high school. I don't know if she's retired or what now, but she was a great teacher.

Mrs. Grimmett: College professor & my favorite programming teacher. She's got a good sense of humor and she taught me the basics of programming...I owe so much to her! She was also my counselor at college and I consider her a friend...we've had some nice talks. And she likes to talk about programming! She is one of the very few people I have met in person with whom I can talk about programming ...who doesn't just go "oh yeah?" and act like they don't really care. Why doesn't everyone realize how great coding is? lol. Not only does she like talking about programming, she likes teaching it, and tells me new things about it. :D

My pre-calc teacher in high school, Fr. Charles, is definitely up there for me.

Quote

"In order to be great at math you must love math. You must love it more than you love yourself, more than you love your parents, more than you love your friends, more than you love your boyfriend or girlfriend. You must love math more than you love televison or books or any other subject. To be great at math you must love math almost as much as you love your God. You must love math with all your heart. You must go home and have sex with math every night."
-Fr. Charles

Who'd expect that from a priest? hahahah

Also have a class this semester with two professors teaching together - Bill Leahy and Aaron Bobick.
Imagine a class whose professors are also improv actors. Good times. Gotta love a professor who's ok being tagged with a water gun in the middle of lecture.

:^:
Prof. Robert Allison: California State University Long Beach
He teaches digital logic design like a sports coach. A great sports coach. Tough harsh teacher, but just what i needed at the time. He is extremely passionate and wants his students to be as excited as he is. He is as much of a psychologist/philosopher as he is a lecturer.

Fond memories include:
  • carrying an index card EVERYWHERE with binary 0-15 and powers of 2 up to 16
  • staying up too late with new friends trying to finish ridiculously well-designed but challenging HDL projects

I finished the semester feeling empowered and proud to have earned a C in his class.
