Being brave/foolhardy, I blew through all of the warnings and got to the site. I just sent them an email question about the eligibility of homeschoolers- I am hoping (somewhat against hope) for a positive response).

Another choice would be using the ISIC card, that basically serves as an international confirmation of the student status.

Right. I understand what "ISIC" means, but what is it? And, how does one get one?

ISIC is International Student Identity Card. You can find the information on how to apply here:

send a high school transcript with personal information, that can be a proof that you are enrolled in that specific school.

*sigh* American crap.

That is required to confirm your student status. As I mentioned, if you don't want to send the transcript and other information, just use the ISIC card. The final result is worth it.

This is nice, but it's only available to US and Canada......

About office, is Open office compatible with Office 2007?

I believe the latest version (3.0) is, yes. I've not tested it out myself, though.

Thanks for sharing this offer. I think I'll take one of everything :D

I use OOo to open .docs all the time, although i don't have access to the most recent edition of Office. It has worked for me so far when I save my documents documents as Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc) in Save As..

I'm sure it's been mentioned before but just in case you haven't heard of this:

The Ultimate Steal by Microsoft gives students a copy of office 2007 ultimate for $60/40. It's not free but its a substantial discount. I'm not sure if it's available outside the US/UK.

You need a university email address to order.

I would like to share my experience with DreamSpark. Maybe it may help some people out.

First, I attend a french cegep (kind of a college) in quebec, Canada. Obviously, my school wasn't listed on the school list and I do not own an ISIC. I simply sent an email to the support of dreamspark, and received an email within an hour with a personalized link that allowed me to verify as a student on dreamspark. I did not have to send any document, proof or whatever. I did this a year ago and since then, I'm always able to log in and download whatever is available through DreamSpark. Please note that dreamspark is bound to your Windows LIVE account.

I think this is a GREAT opportunity offered by Microsoft.

As for "The ultimate Steal", I could also use that offer using my "cegep" email.

P.S. For information, cegep here is between high school and University.
