Gimme good old fashioned Rock n Roll any day I also like country, reggae, soul, lotsa kindsa rock. I like most older songs I hear (60s, 70, 80s) modern stuff (with a few exceptions) generally sucks

In general, rap seems to have become so generic and commercialized nowadays that most of it is not even really worth listening to. I like music that's rich in actual...well... music, not just a bunch of crap lyrics that don't mean anything. At least with rock there are often a lot of symphonic elements which just add to the richness of the music and give it an overall nicer feel. That's not to say that I don't like rap at all, I just think it has its place. I think rap should be part of other music, and not actually considered music by itself.

There is a lot more to rap than most give it credit for. And anyone who goes around saying its not music can suck one. I hate classical music, doesn't mean I don't call it music.

Most mainstream rap is pretty crappy though, so I can see why people get the impression

While we're digging up dead bodies, I enjoy mostly rock. Nothing metal, I hate getting into a song only to hear the lead singer go into a screamfest. As far as Rap goes, I divide it into 3 categories:

1) Good, intelligent, clever rap
2) Club rap
3) Terrible rap that is only a beat with some guy talking about murdering, drugs, raping, anger, his shoes, my shoes, etc. Most rap on the radio falls under this category.

I can appreciate 1 and 2.

No kidding, that's one of the biggest reasons I've stopped listening to the radio... it's flooded with crap rap that's nothing but what you mentioned in #3...
That would be interesting if there was more indie music on the radio, like postrock and the like.

BTW rock rocks!!!!!!!!! it has history and legends of its own. it almost gives u an alternate identity

Rap is so much more than today's top 40 music. That's like saying you don't like Rock because of bands like "Presidents of the United States of America" so bands like that can determine if you like rock?

In case you didn't know Breaking Benjamin > any rock band ever.

The same could be shown for rap, you have lyricists that are extremely talented, DJ's that can create music that is unbelieveable, and yes, alot of crap as well. Don't for a minute act like Rock doesn't have crap strewn all over the genre the same way. Even specific Rock bands can fall on both sides of the fence Look at Metallica - Ride the lightning, Vs Metallica - St. Anger. St. Anger is complete crap, while Ride the lightning is one of the best metal albums ever put out.

Nas is a crazy lethal rap artist with lyrics that slam. While The FatBoys could have shoved a meatball in their mouth and no one would have cared..come to think of it.. they did on their videos. Yes gangster rap is violent, look at where it originated. They are just writing about what they know. You can't tell me that Rock bands don't include bad influence in their albums. Hmm "There ain't no finer place to be than running Lake Shore Drive". LSD anyone?

You all have your opinions, and your entitled to them. Mine is that there are good and bad bands on both sides, and to say differently is like saying "Jewish people are all penny pinchers". You really don't want to go down that road. It leads to the holocaust.

[i] ok do me a favor you say you hate rap well i agree with you to a sertain extent... try listinig to the song dance with the devil by immortal technique. and actually hear the song this is the kinda rap thats never really been discovered yet. lil wayne he ruins shit! eminem most of his music doesnt really even make any sense
