VB vs. C

Posted 19 February 2009 - 09:37 AM

I need 1 class to complete a 2yr IT degree. This is what is offered: Principals of VB(online, not .NET), C programming(online), Mangement of Information Tech. (on campus 3 hr, 1x/Week). Now I don't "need" any of these-- just need to pick the easiest elective to get 2 more credits to graduate. I have already done some java and programming logic/design. Just looking for a "what I would do" from people with experience.

Thanks
Brent

This is a far too serious question to be posted in the lounge. Prepare to be taunted and flamed..

Take C if you want to program for a while. Take the IT class if you'd rather do management like activities. Take the VB class if you think setting yourself on fire would be a pleasant experience.

Right, right. I am thinking that any class online is faster and therefore easier than wasting hrs. in the classroom, then figuring out the assignments on your own anyhow. Thanks,

Well if that's the case, why even take courses? The point of them is to learn something (hopefully that you would enjoy). Otherwise you're just burning money.

My uni wouldn't let me take Calculus III because of some region restriction and instead suggested I should take a few "fluff" classes. I promptly told them to go F themselves.

VB will be easier than C -- C would be a better course if you were interested in programming.

Agree completely. Or take a COBOL class; it will be just a relevant as VB.

We're talking VB6 here? The one that's been on life support for nearly a decade? I really, really don't understand why it's still used. There must be some pirate company out there that sells copies of the thing for a few pennies extra when you buy a pack of gum...

when u say vb i assumed it was vb.net. if it is vb6 then, good god no, dont take it. if it is vb.net, then seriously consider it. jsut monster.com search for vb.net jobs, and u will see what im talking about.

ps, i took 2 semesters of COBOL like 3-4 years ago. yeah, that sucked.

COBOL's a little out-dated. :) Good luck on finding a non-trial version compiler for it.

The entire .NET Platform is a failure. M$ is a failure. Vista's a remake of Windows: ME/2000.
