Floppies = obsolete. My home machine doesn't even have a floppy drive.

CD-RW has it's uses.

External harddrive is great for large quantities of data.

Generally, I use a flash drive.... compact, universal, gets the job done.

hi m8,

I have a floppy drive on my dev. pc 'just in case', but hardly ever use it
I use dvd/rw to do daily backups of my apps & other data like documents
I use a 500gb external harddrive to backup my apps/data/documents/emails & digital images, which i do once a week
I use a usb memory stick when i go on-site to transport programs & zipped up database's

GL

Bob

I prefer floppies for booting up to DOS.
CDs work better than floppies (alot less hassle in changing them).

External Harddrives are no different than flash drives (maybe faster, but bulkier!).

Honestly? I over-all love flashdrives. They're small, portable (large in size)... etc

I haven't had a Floppy in my computer for many years now, hell I don't even know anyone (personally) that has one. I have several Flash Drives, they're handy indeed. I have 2 Portable HDD's, one that's not any bigger than my wallet so it's easy to carry around. I have a CD-R but use my DVD-R much more often (especially with Dual Layer DVD's, then I can hold a lot of data)

One of my external harddrive's power brick has gone strange, enough power getting through to light it up but not enough to power drive.
Now I'll to to wait till I get enough money for replacement.

250Gb gone, it has backups of the laptop's drive on it.

@Adam:

I've been having something similar with one of my portable HDD's, sometimes when I plug it in I get a message saying USB Device Unrecognized. I end up having to reboot to get it to work. Weird

Floppy's are obsolete on a storage level... but I find myself needing a floppy drive now and again, for instance when I need to boot my PC to custom Hard Drive tools (Fat X HD Tools - used in XBOX harddrive modification)... so they do still come in handy once in a while... but seriously, who uses a floppy anymore for storage?

It's 10 times the size of a thumb drive... and only holds like 1/10000th the space that a standard modern USB thumb drive.

Floppies (can!) be 2.5 MB in size.
That's more than I'll ever really need..... :D

Same.

CD-R for music so i don;t have to carry my ipod into the car.

Flash drive (it says DIC for some reason) for smallish files.

External HDD for storage.

Floppies irritate me. On occasion you find a place where you need one -- but when to try to use that old dusty FDD you have laying about somewhere it is too old and dusty to work.

Generally boot CD's make a nice replacement but they can be a pain to make.

USB drives for my basic sneeker-net medium.

External HDs are nice but mine is bulky and so I don't always lug it about with me.

You forgot to mention online-storage -- which I tried to use but I found that ultimately there are too many places where I don't have internet access to make this a viable medium.
