What Type of Language Do You Prefer?

Posted 01 March 2009 - 10:27 AM

I thought it would be quite interesting to find out people's opinions on what type of language they prefer.

Personally, I am torn between unmanaged and framework. I like using the .NET framework for making GUI applications easily, but I also like the fact that C++ is multi-platform.

Similar thread already exists here:
http://www.dreaminco...wtopic83799.htm

It practically answers all the questions of the poll too.

That thread is about specific languages, where as this is about types.

Basically, the type can be seen from the language itself. If someone mentions that he/she uses C#, this automatically means that the user uses a managed code environment. Same applies if the user uses PHP or any other language.

programable, Core is a moderator and brings up valid points. He can post in whatever thread he'd like. You have posted this in the Caffeine Lounge, which is not the correct place, and there is a VERY similar thread (even if you feel it doesn't answer your question, those that replied to the previous thread will likely not see the difference/goal in your new thread).

Please be respectful of the moderators, while you may not agree with them, their job here is to keep things organized and assist members. Core was pointing out a similar thread that you might find useful rather than starting your own.

I'm going to move this to the Corner Cubicle.

I was respectful. I said "Please".

What is the difference between Caffeine Lounge and Corner Cubicle? They are very un-descriptive names if you ask me.

The Corner Cubicle forum is for off-topic discussion of IT related topics. Caffeine Lounge is for non-IT topics.

So far, I'm proving that Frameworks/Runtimes are preferred by more people!

For a poll to have statistically significant results, you'll need a number of votes far more representative of the site population.

I like unmanaged code so far, I haven't spent a vast majority of time in C# though.

I'm on the fence. I think focusing on how a language is implemented is an interesting take. Ultimately, I'm not sure if this makes that much of a difference from a programmer's perspective.

I don't really see a distinct difference between "Framework" and "Script" in this context. Both categories encompanse interpreted languages. Intrepreted languages run whereever you can implement the interpreter. That Sun and Microsoft have done a good job distancing themselves from what interpreter means shouldn't really matter.
