Maybe worth while taking a look at the date of this thread.

Seeing as you have not mentioned which link you found useful its worth while pointing out that you do not want to be using Visual Studio 2008 and your college has to be signed up for you to use DreamSpark, so it is not always a viable option.

If you did click on the express link it will actually take you to a page recommending Visual Studio Community, I also recommend Community as you are basically getting professional for free. There are some terms and conditions that if you are going to be selling the software you write that you may want to read up on. However for learning and playing around with community is the ideal choice!
