Bahh, hit counters are bad, if Mr. Short wants one.. I'll find one that hides the stats.

If you put a hit counter, you're just telling the world how un-popular your website is. There are statistical systems which will track where the visitors came from and everything. In fact!!! Duh... if you type in www.thedds.com/webstats you can see the stats for visitors! (This is compiled every saturday night) (this is because it's hosted on BlueZebra's servers btw)

You don't want a hit counter trust me, if he wants one have him call me and I'll talk him out of it :)

www.thecounter.com has an excellent one, very customizable, lots of stats, no advertisements. it can even be an invisible one that just lies in the html source with no image

Well counters can be cool on homepages imo, but not on larger or more professional sites... as are guestbooks...

My thoughts are that even on a proffesional site you can use both hit counter and guestbook, even though you should be really careful with the guestbook from designing aspects, but a good place to put a hitcounter on is some kind of "intro" page (e.g. http://www.inflames.com) and then with a nice, not too "visible" (couldnīt find a better word... :)) designing touch to it...
my thoughts as said... :)

Well heres what I use at dream.in.code

http://www.dreamincode.net/webstats

Those stats are generated every Saturday night and are included with every BlueZebra account! Much better than a hit counter :)
