Java application, as an exe file

Posted 18 March 2009 - 08:30 AM

Hi all,
I have completed developing of small java application,

I am using Jdeveloper, I have worked with NetBeans,

the question I have always developing building application , but never make them exe, :)

I mean to make the program ready to be used for end users ( they only double click it and start ) in other be complete application,

I have done that several times for C# .Net but I have no idea how it is possible for java application,
to build exe file for my application that installs it on the users machines ,

hints, tutorials would help,
I have Googled but may be I used bad key words

Thanks in advance :)

If you use NetBeans, then you're closer than you think. You don't have to have the application be an exe to execute it. NetBeans actually makes an executable jar file, which is very similar to an exe. I forget which directory NetBeans puts it in, but there are only a few to search, and it will have exactly the same name as the project.

Hope this helps! :)

For making .exe windows executables in Java you have to either convert your class or jar file of your program using a converter, i usually use and recommend using exe4j: http://www.ej-techno...j/overview.html good luck :)

But .jar works and it works on Windows, Linux, Mac, Sun, OpenVMS, ....
AymanMastermind is right exe4j is a good product that I use mainly to avoid reverse engineering, but if you don't care about your code to be published in ComputerWorld who cares ?

I have already finished the application with the Oracle Jdeveloper 10g, as I understood that the Jdeveloper does not yield jar file, due the simplicity of the application I will make in NetBeans, and use the jar file :), yes that helped,

I shall get jar file first for the application,

Yes they do but I am thinking of distributed to students as my end users for example so I have though in the most proper way.

thanks all :)

May be easier just to make the jar file at the command line.
