I want to make my own computer

So I want to make my own computer but don't really know how to. So if you have any tips or anything else like a link to a website. I will happily take it in :)

Oh and if this is in the wrong forum could you tell me that or move it please!

So what you mean make your own computer? Do you mean making computer case or are you really planning to make the whole computer yourself or are you meaning building the computer from parts like motherboard, graphics card, sound card, processor, ram memory chips, power, pc case, multimedia drive of your wanting and harddisk?

You are in the right place! There are a ton of guides around the Internet that can help you out. One of the first ones you may find useful is the one listed below...

Build your own pc | PCMech

As you will on the right hand side there are many little sections that you can follow along with. The only problem is that it doesn't have any pictures really, but if you do a simple search you can also find some videos for certain steps of the process.

You may also want to try a book from the library. Just make sure it is rather current. Building computers these days is not as hard as it use to be. Many of the parts you buy also come with guides to show you how to install them properly.

So if you mix the site with any books, videos on the web you see and the guides from the individual parts you will find it pretty easy.

If you ever get stuck on a step, you can ask here about that particular step for more specialized help. :)

Yeah tutorials and stuff don't really help me. But first i need money and to get the case the motherboard ect. so yeah

NewEgg.com is my personal favorite place to buy computer parts from.

It has everything you need :). The customer reviews really help a lot.

On a mental side.

Dont set your standars too high. think of mainly the basics of a computer then work on from there. if you set your standards too high, you stuff up then you come down like a freight train crashing (bad similie). so yeh....

lol most of it is color coded. lol
all you need is a screw driver, mother board, video/graphics card,mother board + proccessor, hard drive, cd drive, monitor, keyboard and mouse.
its easy i built one when i was 8.
you can do it

I would have to agree with that. I bet I've spent over $8000 at NewEgg over the years.

mrloserskid, you impress no one. You are correct that most of it is color coded, and everything is mainly snap in place and forget. Very interchangable now. There is not need to include "its easy i built one when i was 8." It just makes you look like a loser and you are trying too hard to impress us.

you're in luck. me and a few friends custom build servers/desktops from scratch. We can help you if you want, and we do it for free.

Basically how we learned is by matching up numbers, such as and LGA 775 CPU will only work with a Socket LGA 775 motherboard, also DDR2 - 240pin RAM, will only work on motherboards that support DDR2 - 240pin RAM.
