[Cheeto]

Hope this is the right forum for this,

I'm currently in high school and I'm trying to put together a proposal so that I can do an independent study in microcontrollers. I have around 3 years of programming experience mostly in Java but a bit of C++ and VB. So I'm wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what microcontroller/book combo to use.

I've heard good things about PIC controllers and specifically OOPic for using C and java syntax.

For a book I was thinking of using this book.

I'm still working out what I need exactly for a proposal but what microcontrollers/books have you guys used?
