HTML in textedit
Posted 10 April 2009 - 08:54 PM
Hey everyone!! So I have recently just started html and so far things are smooth. Although earlier I was writing a page, I saved it, came home and opened it to see that the html I had wrote was opening in textedit when I went to edit and make changes. It did display in the browser but also in the textedit but not as code for me to make changes. I have tried saving it as text files, etc. I still do not get the html code; just what the code represents . Any ideas for a noob would be much appreciated, I'm sure it something that I am simply over seeing but at the current moment I don't know if it is frustration or anxiety but I cannot figure it it out . Thanks!!!!

yteah , idon't have text edit so i can't really test it, i mean just open your stuff in notepad and run it if thats what you wanted. even though its saving it as a text file, its just gonna interpolate things differently,

TextEdit is a MAC program much like WordPad. You want to save them with a .htm or .html extension.
Here are some free mac HTML editors, both WYSIWYG and hard code:

yes, ignore rich text commands causes text edit to show the html of a .html file. Keep in mind that when you use save as in text edit, it converts your html TO html, displaying the code you wrote. Use get info to manually change the extension to .html.
PS Aptana studio is an awesome free professional editor for mac! It's not WYSIWYG, you still have to write code, but its good.
