Hey everyone, i just started a ide project for .net. Its gonna be completely open-source and it'll look just like vs!
Features:
Docking:Finished
Syntax Highlighting:Need help with that, if anyone knows how to implement, please PM me or reply (i hope that ull reply instead of PM)
Add-ons:Not Added, but will Soon
Compiler: Done
Forms Designer: 80% (nice example here, but gonna try this one now...Require's SharpDevelops NRefactory. I combinded both examples.)
Line Counter: Done (gets current line, example here)
Debugger: Getting started (example/project can be found here/I might give it a try, or just redirect console output/errors.)

I would go ahead and say that creating such a complex suite will be impossible in your case. Simply because you don't have neither the experience the Visual Studio team has nor the team of professional developers.

Such a project requires lots of expertise in software development and it takes a long time even for a professional team to make it work.

Creating a look (GUI) of Visual Studio isn't a big problem. But Visual Studio is considered a very good product because of the features too. And that's going to be the problem in your case.

However, as a learning experience, I would say give it a try.

yeah...this kind of thing takes time to develop....but its mostly a learn experience!
edit:its not ment to be as good as vs though.... just as something for people to learn off of.
Who knows...maybe this will be come as good as SharpDevelop.
