How to make a good cup of coffee?

Posted 14 April 2009 - 03:07 AM

I do not drink coffee but would like to start  the problem I have is that I do not like the taste.
So anyone can recommend how to make a cup of coffee taste like heaven?

I have "medium roast" for a electric brewer (?! brewer sounds wrong :P)
and following the dose on the packages usually make things taste bad :P

So help me make a tasty cup so I can stay awake ;P

Most people don't like coffee. What they do is add a spoon of instant coffee to AN ENTIRE MUG of hot water, add a slug of milk and kill of any the last shred of coffee flavour with 5 spoons of sugar.

I personally hate sweet tastes especially in coffee as i like the taste of coffee itself, so i my coffee would be one spoon of powder milk, hot water and two spoons of instant coffee, no sugar!!! ;)

Filter coffee is much stronger than instant coffee, both in taste and caffeine. Not the best if you're trying to teach yourself to like the stuff.

If you just want to stay awake eat an apple.

OK, filter coffee..... does it come out in espresso-sized portions (tiny)

Add hot water (optionally milk and sugar) for an Americano.
Add hot milk for a latte.
Add frothed milk for a cappuccino.
Add chocolate syrup and hot milk for a mocha.

In fact, syrups may be the way to go. Sweetness and a tweaked flavour. Hazelnut is quite popular. :)

Alternatively just leave it as espresso and down it in one! (burny burny)

if you are a hardcore coffee drinker then only you will know how to make a perfect cofee
for tips never put hot water or milk with too much sugar directly in cofee
firstly stir the cofee with very little amount of water maybe by hand or in food processor
this retains the taste of a coffee

This is how it began for me..

Instant coffee, 2 teaspoons for ~2dl hot water.
4-5 teaspoons of sugar (actually more like 6-8 but I'm embarassed to tell the truth)
added milk about 3-5cl

I actually increased the amount of sugar from that until one day when I used too much and almost threw up.
It turned completely and I never have sugar in my coffee since that day, except if there's no milk in which case I add 1-2 teaspoons of sugar.

If you make coffee in the coffeemaker you could try adding cinnamon or cardamom to the coffee. Personally I prefer adding it before you brew the coffee but I guess most people sprinkle it on afterward.

Oh and there's nothing like substituting the milk for cream, especially whipped cream (and some Jameson).

1. boil water.

2. get mug put tea bag in.

3. pour hot water into mug.

4. add milk.

5. remove tea bag once it tea is at the right strength.

6. add sugar to taste.

and there you have a nice cup of tea. . . . . what this is about coffee?? bugger

Ok then

1. Ground coffee beans in grinder.

2. put ground coffee powder in Cafetiere.

3. boil water allow water to cool for about 3 mins.

4. add water to Cafetiere allow to percolate for about 2 mins.

5. press down on Cafetiere plunger.

6. pour into cup of choice.

7. add milk/coffee cream and sugar if required. ( I usually add milk and two sugars)

Flavored creamers are good. Though I like it black and strong like my men :P plain as is, I do enjoy the flavored creamers. Starbucks has great coffee if you want to move on eventually to black. My favorite creamers are Tiramisu, white chocolate raspberry, & peppermint (around holidays). Stirring coffee with a candy cane also adds a little flavor and spice.

I'd disagree. But yeah, most people adulterate the hell out of it. Then again, how many people eat baker's chocolate?

Coffee is a close cousin to chocolate. With this in mind, it often appeals to the palate light and sweet. However, the connoisseur will develop a fondness for the dark stuff, just like chocolate.

If it's instant, it's crap. I use a strange beast called a vacuum coffee maker at home, with fresh ground Ethiopian stuff. Nothing else need be added to it.

Basically, in spite of all the gizmos, brewed coffee is the same as tea. You steep the herb in question, in this case a burnt bean, in hot water. When it's dark enough, remove water from steeped material. Drink water.

You can't drink coffee black at Starbucks; they burn it. However, if you ask for their "breakfast blend", which usually isn't listed, it's close to the real stuff.

If you want to develop a taste for coffee, start with a light roast. Dark roast is bad, French roast is dead. The only reason to carbonize coffee is to add tons of sugar and dairy to it.

Good luck. And remember, think chocolate.
