Project Plan

Posted 14 April 2009 - 04:44 PM

Hello everyone,

Excellent website you all have here!

I've been following w3school's PHP tutorials lately, and found them excellent, and I think it's time now that I worked on a project. I know one major part of creating a project, is a project plan, so I'm just wondering, how do you plan your PHP projects? I understand some write things down on a sheet of paper, draw the layout etc, but what specifically do you have to note down?

Thanks everyone and best wishes,
- sharkbate24.

I always plan on using a class or two, followed by controlling code. From there it's just a matter of writing the class functions. Once the code is written, all that's left is css and making sure the html validates.

If you're thinking about creating some sort of flowchart, that's basically what the controlling code is, and it's usually too short to really need a flowchart.

This topic is refering to an area wider than just PHP - web site planning.

Therefore, moved to Web Development. :)

My general current process

1. Gather a flat list of all possible requirements, then prioritize them
2. Create an entity diagram from requirements
3. Put together some simple use cases for the important stuff
4. Do a high level design
5. Prototype
6. Code

The 'size' of the project generally determines how elaborate the steps are. If the project is really simple, I might not bother documenting a lot of the steps and just keep in in my head.
