Thanks Jon. I was saying in my into that i used to do Java so I'm picking it back up again. Alot of my friends are after emmigrating so I want to try get a collection of Irish card games and put them on an applet, so we can still play together. I plan to create an application first, then the applet.

I'm basically starting from scratch and i'd be novice level programmer.

Hey, I'm beginning to program in Java. I learned it college (10 years ago!!)

So, i hope to learn alot more here on the forums from all the guys! I would rate myself as a novice!

Welcome! It sounds like you and I have similar stories. I lwas introduced to Java in college 12 years ago and never gave it a second thought until 3 or 4 years ago. I have been playing with it on and off ever since. You're going to learn a lot from the great people here.

There's a few +1 to get you started. :)

Hi everybody!

It was suggested that I introduce myself here as well as in the "Introduce Yourself" forum. So here goes...

About 6 months ago I got my first job as a programmer. Before that, I was an assistant manager at a fast food joint. I did manage to get a few Java classes under my belt while I was in college.

The project I'm working on at work is a web application with a Java backend and an AngularJS front end. I've learned way more about programming in general while working than I ever did in class but I'm definitely still a novice. I was very lucky to have a senior developer take me under his wing and mentor me.

I digress. My hope is to begin working on a pet project or two in my spare time to sharpen some skills. Hopefully, that's where you guys come in! :) I look forward to getting to know you all and I hope I can someday answer somebody else's questions with the degree of expertise and knowledge I see all over this site.

Jump on in the help conversations! You don't have to be an expert to help people. I'm a beginner myself but still find ways to help people out :) Plus it's also a good learning experience to get in on the conversations.

+1. This is the best way to really know the language. The main thing to remember is, if you don't know, then don't guess. If you're not sure, look it up, do an experiment or two, and figure it out. (this in itself is a great way to broaden your grasp of the language)

I am a Java Programmer!

I do like to mess around with other languages from time to time though. Java will always be my favorite though. After all, it was the first language I ever learned and the one that got me started into programming.

Currently, I am learning the basics of Java and doing mini-projects to progress my knowledge. Goal is to eventually excel in Java enough to assist a community I am currently with.

I'm a year into my first programming job working mostly with back-end Java EE and JPA database stuff. It's heavy going but I'm getting there. I do some front-end work too but not so much.

I'm learning how to Spring and making some web applications in my spare time.
