  1. In Topic: reverse loop

    Posted 21 Sep 2012

I can't imagine that it would be very relevant for a while loop, and I'm not really sure how it would work in a for/each loop either.

However, in this case, it simply increments your counter (in this case, I) by the step that you have indicated. Since you made it -1 in this case, it will do a backwards step, or a decrement, instead of the normal increment. It is worth noting that simply saying

    For I As Integer = 7 To 2

will NOT work. It will assume a positive increment, which will not happen with those criteria. I hope this helps explain a little more what is happening here.
  2. In Topic: Dynamically generating tooltips in GridView

Is it possible to generate the tooltip data using some form of a key from the data? You could store the data in a dictionary using key value pairs, then pull based on the key. I don't know if that owuld alleviate the clutter or not, seems to play along with what you have in place ATM.

Could you possibly use a hidden cell in the row to store the tooltip text, and then read that data to fill the tooltip?

Do you really need the If Page.IsPostback on the second block of code? Are you getting in there the second time through? That seems like the reason it would not be setting the label properly, if it never got back into that code.
