In Topic: Recommended Web Host
Posted 5 Dec 2012
Just had a look and it looks like both GoDaddy and BlueHost have decent packages, it's a shame they're slightly out of budget. Hopefully they'll have a Christmas-related offer soon though.

Godaddy sells dotcoms for around $13 a year and provides hosting for $5 a month, give or take. As for separating hosting and domain name, where did you here that it was easier? I find it incredibly convenient that godaddy is my registrar and my host, of sorts. I'm my own host, but I rent a server from godaddy.
I think the reason is that usually web-hosts will charge a lot more for domain renewal than an actual domain registrar (which I have found to be true) and probably the same the other way around.
I made the mistake of registering my domain with iPage, who want to charge me around £30 (around $50USD) to renew the domain for 2 years (the domain alone, no hosting is included with that), namecheap.com however, offer domain renewals at $6.58/yr so $13.16 for 2 years, much cheaper. -

Like ButchDean said, a game (most other kinds of projects) will usually have a working title and a proper name is usually chosen much later on. -
In Topic: SDL problem, the BMP wont show!

As ButchDean said, you should be checking return values. It will help narrow down the problem very much.
Also, as a few other people mentioned, ensure that you image is in the correct directory.
If you're using Visual Studio, it must be in the project directory (usually the same place as your .cpp files). If you're not using Visual Studio, it should probably be in the same directory as the .exe file. -

I use Lynx a fair bit surprisingly. I often work on very bad internet connections and I find it still manages to load things about the same speed normal browsers do on a good connection.
But, for normal use, I use Firefox and have done for years. I occasionally use Chrome when Firefox isn't playing nicely though, or on slower machines. -

Lemur, on 17 August 2011 - 10:20 PM, said:Dell and HP are garbage. Sony is, for the most part, good hardware that does not fail. I repair computers as a part time in College and I've only seen a few Sony computers in all my time. The most common I see are Compaq Dell and HP. Middleground are Asus, Acer, and Toshiba.
You have to consider that is partly also because Dell and HP computers are a lot more popular, and have more models and types and everything.
But the Sony laptops are often suggested by most computer sales people as the nearest thing to a Mac that's any good.

Too true, much too true.
and to the OP:
I have never owned a Mac and probably will never choose to buy one, mainly because of, as Lemur said, the price is just much more than an equivalent (or better) PC.
However, I have fixed a lot of Macs and helped a lot of people with using their Macs, and I have to say that aesthetically they do have some proficiency.
As far as using them for programming goes, it really depends what your focus will be. If you're hoping to program games, they're probably not your best choice, but if you're hoping to program for portable devices, they're a very good choice.. and so on.
But, at the end of the day, if you like them then it's probably worth it for you. If you're hesitant, then probably not.
