I use it just to back everything up that I need for classes in the off chance I ever forget my flashdrive.
I used it more in high school until they blocked the site.

I just got an HP dv7t for my birthday/graduation, and I love it. This is my second HP and I found them to be very nice. It works well for everything I've done on it so far, which includes programming, social networking, and some gaming (The extent of that is League of Legends though). I saw a 15 inch model, and I bought a 17 inch model. This particular model starts at $1,100, which comes with Intel i7 quad core, 6GB RAM, and 750GB HDD.
I wasn't so much a fan of Dell when I had one.
Though I suppose it's all on personal preference; I have some friends who have had very good experiences with Dell. I've never really tried an Alienware so I wouldn't be able to comment on them, I've also had some friends who like those as well.
Just though I'd add my $0.02, Good luck!

Look, I'm not trying to make an argument against drugs, cause I know no one will listen. The only thing that will happen is those who are pro-marijuana will talk my ear off about how beneficial it is, it's been done many times before.
My only response to you is why are you here rationalizing when you could be spending all of this time smoking and good luck when you have to get a spur of the moment drug test, or do you have a smart-ass answer for that, too?
