Sounds like a trigger button for a jihad suicide vest, if you ask me.

The fact that you have already specified a 1 cubic inch box, for a project that you have no idea how to get started on makes it sound like a contract project you took on and are now stuck. If it were just for fun you wouldn't already have a specification like that.

You might consider studying bluetooth ear sets. Are already a self-contained unit with battery and transmitter and communication protocol and a button on them. Cell phones already know how to react to it. They can already send stereo music, battery level, volume up/down, pause/play, next/last song etc. So there are plenty of events already defined for you to work with.

Great. Start there. React to the button press events of a bluetooth headset, within your own application.

Thank you for the advice on the bluetooth set, that makes sense. Don't worry, this is not for a suicide vest. I just figured consumers would want small products rather than large, so this would be good practice. Basically I started thinking about this after watching the craftsman assurelink garage door opener (lets you open and close garage from phone). For my project, I basically just want to count how many times a button gets pressed. For example, if a garage door gets pressed 100 times then the phone would record 100 presses. I don't want to have to connect to the internet though, I'd prefer to just send a wireless singal (like the bluetooth you suggested). If anyone has any other helpful advice I would appreciate it, as this is a tough project for me. In the example above, the part I would struggle with is having the garage door button send a signal that can be picked up by the phone.

Thanks for the help so far.
