This is what I had come up with:

Which actually seems to run a lot better than it did when I made it originally... -
In Topic: Efficiently counting set bits
Posted 21 May 2012
I've played with bit stuff for a while, and this is probably the most flexible bit counting method I've found so far here.
Also, bunch of other stuff on that page. It's awesome. -
In Topic: What language was C coded in?
Posted 19 Apr 2012
Yeah, with original languages like C, it's kind of like they build the first small compiler by hand, then build a better compiler with it, adding features and stuff, and each previous compiler can build a better compiler until we end up with what we have today and the full standard is met. Of course each new version has to be written... but it's a fun process to think about. -

Well, in response to the pic and setting every warning message... I have noticed GCC actually fails to compile some things with extra warnings enabled sometimes. Not even when it considers warnings errors, but really where a new error pops up that was never there before. Usually some weird thing deep in the standard or boost libraries that I've been unable to resolve unless I turn off that warning flag. Eh, so sometimes I have to go without warnings. -

You could actually check to see if it exists using various functions... Been a while since I've done that, but I think access is one that checks for its existence and others can tell if it's an actual directory or file and so on. If it doesn't exist you could use mkdir to create the folder.
Or... the simple and portable way is to use boost filesystem with exists and such, but that may get a little complex for users new to boost and requires more stuff compiled separately.
