Seriously dude, it was an anecdote, you're not some master of communication that would have altered the course of that time. Read the damn anecdote and giggle.

I said that at this line (line X)
x = "OK, the right button just brings up a menu. The command you need is on that."
was the incorrect response, it should have been
x2 = "I'm sorry, I can not help you any further"
This was post #25, we can conclude the stance as:
"Do not help any furher" -> s1
lordofduct responded on post #26
What if he said, "No, show me another way.", like he did? -> b2
In post #33 I responded to post #26 saying
Once, again just re-iterate
"I can't help you" x3
From this post #33, we can conclude the stance as:
"Do not help any furher" -> s2
In summary:
x2 was proposed over x. lordofduct asked what if the response to x2 is b2.
I then said to b2 the response to be x3.
Both x2 and x3 are the same stance.
Please show me the error that you believe to be on my part? -

Your fix for the scenario played out roughly the same. Only difference is you more quickly backed away with "I'm sorry, I can not help you any further". How do you think the boss would have reacted to that? Just say, "oh, that's ok then".... I highly doubt that.
Once, again just re-iterate:
"I can't help you"
If your boss doesn't like it, then its their problem. It should not be a case of the boss saying "jump", and you saying "how high".
