I know it might be a bit late in the life cycle of this thread to make a comment, but I simply couldn't resist the temptation. Microsoft became great by stabbing all of it's friends in the back. Amidst the victims (the high profile ones, at least) were IBM, Netscape, and now all of it's hardware partners. Not ripping of an editorial in wired at all. -

True. But if web development is already a hodgepodge, then adding ASP and PHP to it couldn't possibly do any harm. -

I would suggest a hybrid app because your knowledge seems to consist mainly of web languages. If you were to try a native app, you would have to use only Java or learn a new language. I am not totally sure how to do Geo-location in a hybrid app, but everything else you want to do would be easier in a hybrid app.
