  1. In Topic: Kickstarter - has it worked for anyone?

I can't believe nobody's mentioned the Pebble yet! That thing was a raging success and pretty good proof that good ideas are rewarded. I mean come on, they raised more than $10,000,000 on a $100,000 goal. Yes, there is a TON of garbage on there that will (hopefully) never see the light of day, but there are a handful of really good projects.

  2. In Topic: [link] Why Wine and Macbooks Don’t Mix…and How to Handle the Aftermath

    Posted 12 Jul 2012

Major major bummer. I've never had to resolve a wine issue, but I was able to revive a dead MacBook Pro that decided to splash around with a bottle of water. I went the rice route at first, but was still having problems. The battery decided to swell up, and I was still having difficulty getting it to power on consistently. I replaced the battery, and then completely disassembled it. There was quite a bit of corrosion on the logic board that I was able to clean up with a cotton swab and some rubbing alcohol. Once I got rid of that, it worked like a charm. Very pleased that I didn't have to lay out $1200 for a new logic board! Only problem I have now is my optical drive is shot. Oh well. Physical media is dying anyway, right? :-)

Long story short, I keep my wine/bottled water/et. al at a distance. Lesson definitely learned.

  3. In Topic: Upgrading to CS6

    Posted 8 Jul 2012

I made the leap to CS6 and outside of Photoshop, I didn't notice a lot of differences. If you use Photoshop a lot, I think it's at least worth it to upgrade that since it's totally been overhauled. InDesign has some GREAT epublishing features that were added, like liquid layout for easy print to epub, PDF forms, linked content, alternate layouts, etc.

In my experience, I've worked on teams where everyone had a different version and it made it difficult to share and collaborate. Eventually we just upgraded everyone to the most recent version (which at the time was CS5.5) and all of our lives were smoother. Go check out the version comparisons on Adobes site and see if the differences seem worth it to you.

    Best of luck!

  4. In Topic: chairs

I have to say, I've had trouble with the kneeling chairs in the past. One day I decided that I needed to actually invest in a chair and decided to sink some money into a Herman Miller Mirra. So incredibly worth it. It's pretty fantastic. No more back problems either.
