Posts I've Made
Posted 9 Dec 2012Welcome to Dream.In.Code 3xce55! It is good that you have started on the path to programming at such an early age, you will be ahead of many of your peers. I hope to see more of you around here and if you have any questions, be sure to show your code and error messages. We can then do our best to help.
Hope to see more of you on the boards! />
Thanks! I really like it around here, and I'm surprised I didn't find this site much earlier. If you could, possibly, give me a couple of references to some posts relating to Java Intermediate tutorials, Java Games, Java etc... that would be great!
Also, I have another post, which has to do with ideas. A reply told me to look at your ideas list (Which I'd seen before but was too tired to read at the time.). So then, I asked if he had any suggestions on any of the ideas on your page for beginners. No reply yet. So, which of the ideas on your list would you think be good for me, and if you need to know how far I've gotten to suggest a good and semi-challenging one, then just say so, but I'd appreciate any suggestions for a beginner/intermediate (Somewhere in the middle of that, lol)!
Posted 8 Dec 2012The path to go from beginner -> intermediate -> expert is practice, practice, and more practice. Doing new things that you are uncomfortable with, will make you better also. Have you seen Martyr2's Mega Project Ideas List?
Go through that list writing code for each will give you great practice!
Thanks for replying! And yea, I did check out that idea list, but it didn't really interest me a whole lot. I will give some of those a try. Any particular ones on there you think would be good for a beginner like me? I want it to have something to do with GUI's.
By the way, I've made a few things of my own as well such as:
- Slot Machine
- Small Text Editor
- A "Guess the Number" Game (Generates random number between 1-10000 and you have to guess the number.)
Again, thanks for the reply!
Posted 7 Dec 2012The problem is that when you hit enter in the textarea you are putting in \n characters which windows will not see as a carriage return line feed (crlf) in the file. You can fix this by using a line like this in your safeFile() function...
Here we are replacing the \n newlines in the content with the system line separator (in the case of windows \r\n) which then will give you the newlines you are looking for in the file.
Hope this helps. />
Thanks! I'll get on to adding that bit of code once I have some extra free time.
