What if you could look down on people across the world without them knowing? Almost a god like view that often governments enjoy like in the movie "Enemy of the State" except without the hocus pocus of going through satellites and stuff. We explore this interesting world on this entry of the Programming Underground!
<Super leet killer theme music here>
Every day hundreds if not thousands of video cameras are installed around the world to track people and property. They claim it is strictly for security reasons to protect ourselves and to monitor what is being done in real time. But with so many of them being hooked up and attached to the Internet, what would stop people from abusing it?
Awhile back I decided to go deep underground into the world of insecure video camera feeds that were alive and well on the Internet. I found hundreds of them of various types staring straight into stores, bars, outside cameras of secure areas and even airports. Not only was I able to view through these cameras, in many cases I was able to even control their view! I could zoom in and pan around. I even zoomed in on a license plate and into passing cars on the streets. What may be more dangerous than what I can see with a camera is what I can make it NOT see.
One shot I got was of an airport in Montana (this is for you bigbluesky!) where I had full control of one of their runway cameras. Now I was able to pan around, zoom and the whole nine yards, but what if I was to collaborate with someone on the ground there and redirect that camera away from a sensitive area while the person there was to do something they shouldn't? Sure, after the fact they may know of my IP address but if I am bouncing through proxies and such, I could probably lose authorities or at least have them track it to a wonderful Starbucks somewhere where I hacked the camera while sipping some of those yummy fraps.
I think companies should be held a bit more responsible about what their cameras are showing the world. Sure they may not care I can see right into their little convenience store in hoboken arkansas, but if I witness how they close up the shop and where they store the valuables I could make it a nice pay day at their expense! On top of this I could use it to identify people in the store, how much cash is in the register and when to tell my buddy outside that the clerk is in the back.
I had asked what it would be like to have a god like view on everyone and all I can say is that it is fun, but if I was the devil I could certainly stir up the trouble!
Below is some screenshots of my ventures across the world from eastern US to places in Europe. Enjoy!

You forgot the fact that these are recorded and any theft in your view is a theft in their view. Therefore, you rob em, you see your buddy robbing them, they see it too and review the tapes.
Oh yeah and that 'controllable' camera simply takes a picture of the region you told it to and sends it to you, but it can still see everything it can take a picture of at once. I know this because my sister set up such a camera so people could watch prairie dogs over the internet, the camera itself does not move an inch, it just sends you a region of the current pan, zoom, and whatever parameters you asked it for. Same thing with the camera at the airport, it doesn't move an inch, it can take a picture of your buddy AND what you asked it a picture for at the same time (well near the same time, with a very small time lag in between of probably a few milliseconds). So unless your buddy is The Flash you're not going to pose a problem to the Airlines.

Read my edit. The camera does not move at all. It's digital. It sees everything at once and simply processes requests for anyone that wants to see (sample a region of specified parameters).
For example, the biological research camera my sister helped install out in the field has a cylindrical part on top. The camera could take a picture of everything at once in a 360 degree mapping if need be (the sensor takes photons from every viewable angle at once). The point is, the camera doesn't move because it doesn't have to.
Even if it did move the Airlines aren't stupid to have just internet cameras, they also have secure cable cameras too.
EDIT:
If we both accessed that camera I could look at one spot at the same time you're looking at a different spot.

Even if you're right, they still have closed network cameras as well, especially at an airport. If there is one place that would have lots of different security cameras, it would be an Airport. Security was a bitch already before 9/11 and now it rapes you on every flight practically.
And even if there wasn't closed network cameras (which is not possible due to federal regulations), there are officers and security measures in place to ensure you're not standing out anywhere that would be a threat unless you're an employee.
So remember, if you try to mess with the airport it will mess you up. You can't even make a hydrogen gas explosive using water and electricity anymore since they don't let fluids on the planes anymore.

It could might as well be "tips and tricks for newbies - using Google to find real time camera" not "Hacking the Gibson". Well
yea you can view them,
yea you can change angle of some of them(not only view the different range),
yea you can take about all of them down if you really wanted to,
yea thy could trace you (if you would),
and yes there might be a good chance thy would not find you.
This would have been something like "Hacking the Gibson", if you would have build software that saves cameras and their relative location in a database, and built google earth tag layer wit all of cameras in their relative locations. Or enable a query of what cameras are closest to the point you are connected to internet/point you describe.
