Track views in your Ruby on Rails application with the Impressionist gem.
28 July 2013

Here's another quickie I wrote to my benefit - I have bad memory! This helps me remember things for the future. :)
We've all been there as web developers, how do I keep track of views? How many people have seen this profile page? How many people have viewed this car listing page? You have to take into account a lot of different bits to make this work properly. From keeping bots at bay, to protecting against rogue wget trolls; it's a lot of work.
In Ruby on Rails there's a gem called Impressionist; and it let's you quickly and easily add view counters to your pages. Safely. Win-win?
I wrote a tutorial on my Tech.pro account showing you how to add it into an existing Rails application. Hopefully it helps you out. :)
