Hey World. This blog is going to be a journal of my experiences trying to become an accomplished programmer man. It will also serve as a way to communicate some of my thoughts that are less obviously tied to programming. I feel like this would be a good time to tell you all a bit about my past, but you can read that stuff here.

Currently, I'm taking 4 online courses with the Game Institute, I'm the Python Forum Leader, I write 2 blogs in addition to this one, I work 45 hours a week as a software engineer, I just bought a house and will be moving in early February, I volunteered to help the guys working on PARPG a week ago but I haven't had time to do much aside from browse some of their source code and set up Eclipse, and I am trying to have some sort of a social life.

I have caught a little criticism about Learning Python Programming because it does have advertisements. Truth be told, I've had the blog for over a year and haven't even made enough for my first adsense check. Starting around March, I'll be hosting the blog myself. I'm going to be setting up a webserver in my house; so I'll export the blog over to wordpress and then set up syntax highlighter on it. The code formatting on my blog looks awful right now, but there's not a ton I can really do about it yet. I'd like it if I could just make enough in advertisements to cover the increased cost in my electric bill from the webserver and the cost of the domain name. Speaking of my webserver, here are the specs:

The only item missing is a power supply that I bought today and 2 2GB sticks of DDR3 RAM. It's a 500W bronze certified supply. If you noticed the TV Tuners, the server will also double as a PVR backend using MythTV. There's more info on my future machine here.

Speaking of future plans, I currently have a BA in computer science. I'm going to try to get into Grad School for Fall of 2011 and then hopefully try to get a PhD. I've toyed around with the idea of going into the Peace Corps when the time comes to write my PhD dissertation. I don't know how likely that will be though, we'll see. It's midnight and I have work in the morning... this seems like a good place to stop!
