Internship at 2nd Solutions

Icon 2 Comments
Well, all in all, my internship experience here at 2nd Solutions has been rewarding as I'm the only one in the building apparently who knows anything about programming. Well, starting out, there was some software to test, so I had to manually set up my own server (was not expecting hardware work at a programming job), but that was set up in time to find the software didn't work...well, there's life for ya!

After that lovely experience, I was given my first programming assignment which was to create a database software in Java to act as the medium towards what would be their inventory system, which was stored on a MySQL server. It was interesting learning everything from the java.sql package. It took a lot of googling and finding examples online to learn it, but it was really worth it. So far the program is working very smoothly, but there are still UI issues as interfaces are not my strong suit :)! Ah well, it functions properly, which makes me happy as a programmer!

At the same time I was assigned to create a login sort of logger system for clients that come into the building to keep track of entries and exits, security reasons I guess. I finished the prototype for that today, and am having my boss look at it to tell me what to change. A programmer's work is never done!

Sounds rewarding, like you said. Do you get paid from internships? I'd like to get one during college.

Some internships are paid, some are not. More than likely it would be paid, especially from college, but mine right now is unpaid. I will be signing on soon for pay though.
