While surfing the web I found an operating system called ReactOS. It isn't anything new and it's been around for quite a while now but it isn't very well-known. It's an open-source replacment for Windows, so it's made to be Windows software and hardware compatible. Which when you think about it alittle is really cool, if you want to use Windows stuff and don't want to pay $100+ for the Windows OS, it's a pretty cool replacement.
It isn't a Unix or Linux based OS either, it has been written completely from scratch and is made to have a Windows like architecture so all your favourate apps and hardware is compatible. ReactOS 0.3.6 is still in alpha stage, meaning it is not feature-complete and is not recommended for everyday use. The ReactOS team also work closely with the Wine team and have contributed a significant amount to it.
Some programs which can be run on it are: Visual Basic 5, Diablo 2, Open Office Suite 2, Mozilla FireFox, Mozilla ThunderBird, Quake III Arena, Quake 2, Unreal Tournament, Halo, Enemy Territory, WinRAR, Xara3D, Tux Paint, Nero Burning ROM, 7zip, Alienblaster, uTorrent, AbiWord, Google Picasa, Mozilla SeaMonkey, Flash Player, mIRC, Adobe Photoshop 3, Paint Shop Pro 4, MS PowerPoint 7, Solitaire, MS Visual Basic 6, MS Visual Studio 2005 and XEmacs. For more information on what's compatible go to the Support Database Here.
ReactOS system requirements are:
32MB RAM (NOTE: Debug builds may require 72MB of RAM, please use a release build on low memory systems)
IDE harddisk (not SATA)
FAT16/FAT32 primary boot partition (NOTE: boot partition must be the first partition on the disk)
VGA compatible video card (VESA BIOS version v2.0 and higher)
Standard (PS/2) keyboard
PS/2 compatible mouse or Microsoft Mouse compatible serial mouse
