This is not a political post, so please return your underwear to the untwisted position.
I've been doing some part time work for the local school district and on occasion, I finish all of my work "ahead" of time. I then go to see if there is anything else that needs to be done. More often then naught I get released early simply because there's nothing left to do and I'm okay with that.
What I'm not okay with is what happened this afternoon. I finished early and went to see if there any additional assignments I could take on. The front desk didn't have anything so they went "higher up" to verify. There were a couple of ladies sitting near the back of the room:
What? Since I'm actively engaged in fulfilling any work obligations, I'm new? I should leave without seeing if there was anything else to do? Double You Tee Ef!
You always work more/harder then what you're getting paid for. I don't care what job you have have or what profession you're in. Laziness, slacking off, doing the bare minimum, et al. is unacceptable. Period.

At least you know that when you write "strong work ethic" on your CV your not bullshitting.

I don't know if I read it here, but I know I read it online:
That's how you get ahead in life.

Promise small, deliver big.

I just think it's a sick mindset that comes from the "American way" of expecting the good life to fall into your lap. Not saying that this is everyone's mindset, but working hard has apparently become a thing of the past

This is why adult children of immigrants kick so much ass in america. Old world standards with new world opportunity.
