Murach's ASP.NET 4.5 Web Programming with C# 2012.

I was recently given the opportunity to review Murach's ASP.NET 4.5 Web Programming with C# 2012. I thought it was a great idea as I've got a couple web projects that I'm looking to start. I'd rather use C# as that is my favourite programming language than working with PHP.

I was really impressed with the book. I think it covers almost every important area for web development. It even went so far as to cover MVC, which I was really liked. The main project of the book was an e-commerce site complete with a custom shopping cart. The book covered topics from sessions to authorization and authentication to master pages and themes to working with data.
Murach's ASP.NET 4.5 Web Programming with C# 2012 assumes a basic understanding of C#, HTLM and CSS. Having done lots of development with C# and some web design those prerequisites were easy enough to cover. The book of course used the new(er) HTLM 5 and CSS 3 rather than the older standards. The C# code was easy enough to understand and I think just basic C# skills would suffice for this book.

The book also gives an introduction on how to work with MVC in ASP.NET 4.5 which I thought was great. It also covers topics like AJAX and WCF services. I think this is a great book for C# desktop developers looking at getting into web programming and experienced ASP.NET developers trying to brush up on the new features ASP.NET 4.5 offers.
