From Desktop to the Web

I've always been more of a desktop programmer than a web programmer. I'd done a bit now and again but not as much as desktop. I decided a few months back to put more effort into moving to the web with the changes in technology. I looked at Flash and while it is great for gaming it just wasn't for me. My next thought was, I'm .NET developer why not look at Silverlight? Well, not having paid that much attention to the web world it was ruled out when I discovered Microsoft had deprecated it. So it was on to HTML5. It has all of the elements required to make some kick ass games, especially with all of the libraries popping up. I looked at a couple of open source ones of course. Qunitus was an early favorite. Having a built in tile engine linked to Tiled was very cool. I worked around with some of the samples that were around the web and it was pretty cool. I'm going to take a look at CreateJS in the near future. It has abstracted drawing, animation, sound and preloading into 4 separate libraries. You just drop in the parts that you need and ignore the rest.

I'm not at that point yet but pretty soon it will be time for Node.js for multiplayer as that where my final interest lays. Now, I'm not talking MMORPG with 2 billion players all online at the same time. It would be amazing to have that many subscribers though. B) No, to start it will be match making pitting 2 players against each other or teams of 2 by 2 initially. With how popular MOBAs are getting, my step-son plays League of Legends and Heroes of the Storm all the time, I'm considering a start up after I get a few other titles under my belt.

Well, that is all for Six's adventures today. Stay tuned for the next adventure.

That is very interesting. I've been thinking about deploying a web game that required potentially a large pool of servers. Azure is definitely something to consider.
