I personally believe marijuana should be legalized. If cigarettes (tobacco) and alcohol are legal, why shouldn't marijuana?
Marijuana impairs your judgement, is one of their reasons, but does alcohol not?

And for the weed/tobacco thing, I would definitely choose weed. As for someone who's tried both, weed is much more pleasant and not very addicting.

Has no one thought about all of the medical uses of this drug? It seems to me (since I am a 70's child), that today everyone talks about the legalization of marijuana as another step towards drugging out America.

Marijuana has so many valid uses in our culture today not too mention the fact that it is a totally green resource that can be have the following uses:

Medical
Clothing
Food
Oils (All kinds from cooking to motor)
energy (bio-diesel)
construction (No more killing our forests)
Paper Products (No more killing our forests)

I'm sure I could think of more if I thought long enough, but look at the list above. Can Alcohol be used for even half of the items mentioned above. Anyone who has tried Marijuana either from a recreational or a medical perspective knows that Marijuana is about as harmless as a cup of tea. Now wait I know everyone is thinking Marijuana causes cancer, but who says you have to smoke it to benefit from its effects?

Instead of looking at the Political or Financial benefits of legalizing marijuana why doesn't everyone ask why is it illegal to begin with?

People are going to be using marijuana whether the law allows it or not, so why not legalize it try to get some money out of the deal?

Let's play a fun game called substitution:

marijuana != homicide.

Should we outlaw all tobacco and alcohol products because the same substitution could be made there as well?

edit: damn typos

Yeah, figured you were too young to get the logical fallacy I highlighted. No problem... :pirate:

Murder is an easily arguable sin where marijuana is just a plant you can feel funny when smoking it. Theft is an easily arguable sin where alcohol is a byproduct that also makes you feel funny. Betrayal is an easily arguable sin..

You can argue why murder is a terrible thing much easier than arguing whether or not smoking marijuana is a terrible thing. You can argue if marijuana is bad, and give supporting details and (goddess forbid) actual research, yet you really don't have to do much to show why murder is a terrible thing.

Using extreme substitution and examples is a really a weak and overused way to counter argue something. It's the "would you jump off a cliff if other people did it too" defense- in reality things are not simple nor ultimately valid. It's also a very annoying thing as well.

adden.
And when you get right down to it, you just feel when something is wrong or not. It's important to at least tell people about it so we all don't forget all the important things.

Ah.. but it proves the generic behavior of this kid's claim. It needs some internal links specifically to the reefer.

When I posted that, I didn't mean that it would apply in every situation obviously.

I would agree with all illegal drugs being legalized. I was going to state it later on though. Each drug should have a different age restriction. I mean, if you're 90, dieing because of heroin is better than having a heart attack.

...so crack cocaine and methamphetamine should be legalized? Because those drugs don't destroy people's lives enough as it is...
