File Permissions On Osx Server

Posted 08 February 2005 - 01:15 PM

ok heres the deal. my roommate is an IT. he knows his Macs very well, thats all he uses (Powerbook and soon a G5). One of the companies he is working for has a complete mac network. the problem they are having is this. when a user puts a file on the server it can be read and writen to for that user only, if anyone else goes to it, it becomes read only. he needs it to be once ANY user puts something on the server EVERYONE has full rights to it. any help appricated

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

since this is prolly unix like perms

the umask might be set wrong

which dictates the perms when a file is created.

They work backwards of chmod

its permssions you dont want the group to have

mine at work is

umask 036

Owner All perms
Group read+exc no write
All Exec only

a chmod of that would be chmod 741

I have no idea how to set that in OSX though
I set mine through my .bashrc,
